Beginning in December 2025, the minimum system requirement to receive new updates and content in the Stoic app is iOS 17 or newer. Devices running iOS 15 or iOS 16 will still support the app, but new updates, features, and content releases will no longer be available on these older systems.
This change helps us build a faster, more stable, and more secure stoic experience.
Will the app still work on iOS 15 and 16?
Yes, you will still be able to use stoic on older iOS versions. However, you will only have access to the content already included in the app by December 2025. No future updates will be delivered to devices below iOS 17.
What will the final update for older systems include?
Users on iOS 15 and iOS 16 will receive a last content update in December 2025, which includes:
- Quotes & daily inspirations scheduled through April 2026
- New weekly themes available until February 2026
- Stoic Wrapped 2025, allowing you to explore your personal 2025 journey at the end of the year
After these dates, no new content will be added to older system versions.
Is my data still safe?
Absolutely. Your data remains private, encrypted, and protected with the same safety measures used in all supported versions of the app. Nothing changes in how your information is handled, and still no one can access your private entries. Your journaling remains fully yours.
What about my other devices?
If you use stoic across multiple devices, the same update requirements apply. To continue receiving new features and content, your devices need to run:
- iPadOS 17.4 or newer
- macOS Sonoma or newer
- visionOS 1.1 or newer
- watchOS 10.4 or newer
Devices using older system versions will still be able to run stoic, but—just like on older iPhones—they won’t receive new updates, weekly themes, or future content after the December 2025 release. Your data will remain safe, private, and fully accessible across all your devices.
Why this change?
iOS 17 introduces new technologies that allow us to build a faster, more modern, and more reliable Stoic app. By focusing on current system capabilities, we can deliver better performance, improved app stability, smoother and quicker updates and new features that older systems can’t support. This lets us spend time creating more meaningful experiences, rather than maintaining outdated system versions.
How can I keep receiving new updates?
If you’d like to continue getting new content and features, update your system to iOS 17 or newer if your device supports it.
To check for updates, go to youd device’s settings and follow the path:
Settings → General → Software Update
If your device can’t upgrade to iOS 17, you can continue using stoic in its current form for as long as you want.
What to do if I need to change my device to meet the new system requirements?
If you’re upgrading to a new device, make sure your data is safely transferred. You can either export your data manually before switching devices, or (you’re a Premium subscriber) enable iCloud Sync to keep all your entries, moods, and reflections securely backed up. This will ensure nothing gets lost when moving to your new device.
